SEASONS - DAILY FANTASY FOOTBALL
Personal Project
January - May 2017

BRIEF:
To create and develop a fantasy football game based on the most popular league and competitions in the U.K. The game will be targeted towards a U.K audience and must be able to meet the needs and wants of the audience, whilst being able to stand out and compete against any potential competitors in the same space. Due diligence and research will be required in the early stages of the project to properly gauge and understand the current climate of the fantasy football scene in the U.K and its audience, as well as looking into sports and sports broadcasting's evolution over the past decade. The final product should be clean, responsive, functional and able to fit into the ecosystem of either Android or iOS.
ABOUT:
Seasons is a new fantasy football game for the UK Market however it differentiates in from the traditional format of fantasy football game that has historically dominated the market, by offering a 'daily format' which offers more, faster-paced games.
Seasons was built from the ground up to best integrate all the new features and make them accessible and appealing to a UK audience, the majority of whom are unfamiliar with the format and would need to be introduced to it. Introducing it to the market would be done in ways that didn't pitch the idea, the app is new and complicated, but in ways that kept some of the familiarity that they associate with fantasy football and its features.
DESIGN
As previously mentioned Seasons was built from the ground up, and built for a UK audience and to meet their needs and wants when it comes to introducing them to a new format of a popular and familiar game. This was a decision made based on the success, or lack there of similar games being brought over from other markets where they've been long established.
Other design decisions such as the use of flat graphics and using images with coloured overlays were made as a reaction to the ever-changing landscape of sports presentation in the media and other sources such as video games. Given that research showed that the audience most interested, and likely to play would be young adults I made the decision to combine all these elements together to create a cohesive and consistent house style and appearance, a modern take on the traditional designs and presentation formats that they might be comfortable with.
ICONOGRAPHY AND DATA:
Statistics have a massive part to play in fantasy football and in Seasons they're no different. The statistics of footballers on the pitch are what determine the points that they earn the player who picks them in their team. Everything from the number of passes made and completed, to the number of shots and goals scored, even down to how many mistakes an outfielder or goalkeeper makes. Experienced players can use these statistics from past games and footballers form to determine whether or not they would be a good pick for their team.
Giving players access to this information in the app and presenting it in a way that other apps don't, be they sports news apps or dedicated statistics apps, was something that I knew would be beneficial and make it stand out from the rest.
I chose to do this using icon because they stand out and once you get used to them, learn them they can present a whole multitude of information in a matter of seconds, whereas reading letters and numbers takes more time. Each player will have their most important (highest scoring) statistics highlighted at the top of their profile, and each position on the pitch will highlight different stats based on the positional relevance. For example, a Goalkeeper will have all GK stats highlighted and nothing related to outfield play, such as goals score or assists because they're not really relevant or going to score many points.
