STATOSPHERE / SEASONS STATS CENTRE
Personal Project
September - December 2016 / June 2017

BRIEF:
I want to make an app that will allow for football fans to share statistics and data with one another in order to create conversations and discussions. The stats and information being shared would be from within the app and therefore the app would also require a fairly impressive statistics suite as part of it. The app would need to be functional whilst also provide a sleek and clean user interface, something that statistics apps and websites typically lack. The ability for users to share content and create discussion must be emphasised as well as allowing them to create their own profiles, customise them and interact with other user profiles.
ABOUT:
'Statosphere' was my first attempt at making a prototype football related app. The idea behind the app was to create a statistics app that would also allow users to share statistics and create discussion and conversation within the app.
The original app was well received, and as a rough working prototype, it was able to showcase the features and ideas of the app with real success. The potential of the app was there for all to see and provided a good foundation for which to carry on with it later on in the year and make it even better. However, after looking at all the other options available to me at the time I ultimately decided to move on to a different idea, but never completely forgot about the idea and some of the potentials that it had going forward.

DESIGN / REDESIGN
After months of being left alone and not touched or changed in any way, I decided to revisit this project and begin making notes on the app and re-assessing some of the design decisions that had been made in the past. I knew that the overall design and appearance of the app was intentionally a bit rough and rigid, it was just meant to be a small prototype to show case the idea. So changing and tidying it up was always on the cards, however, I knew that I could do one better, and instead of just doing some minor spring cleaning I could tie it into my most recent and much larger football app "Seasons - Daily Fantasy Football" as a sister app.
'Statosphere' on its own was a bit of mixed bag when it came to its identity and the multiple elements that made up the screens, a lack of cohesion was its main undoing in many aspects. However making a sister app of Seasons would eliminate the problems of not being consistent and a bit all over the place. It would also make it feel like a much more established app, just by following the design, and aesthetics of its partner app.

POTENTIAL IN THE REDESIGN
When it comes to talking about the potential of the redesign v.s the potential of the original, had things carried on in much the same way as they began, I feel like there is no comparison. They were destined to be completely different apps.
'Statosphere' would have evolved into a more social media heavy app, where conversation and discussion would be coming in from external platforms such as facebook and twitter. Seasons Stats Centre (SSC) has turned into a much more self-sufficient eco system, where users can do everything that they would expect, all within the same app's, instead of switching between several.
From a UX stand point, the SCC is also much easier to use and navigate. The original was very slow and navigation came in the form of a burger menu, and then several sub-menus on different pages. Now there is a navigation bar at the bottom of the screen at all times, so no matter what you are looking at you will be able to move seamlessly throughout the app quickly and efficiently.
